It's that time of year again. This weekend, thousands of music fans will flood Hyde Park as Hard Rock Calling 2012 hits London's most loved outdoor music venue. This year, however, young and old rockers alike will come together to celebrate the music of one of the most iconic artists of all time: Bruce Springsteen. That's right, the man who "owns America's heart" is returning to the London stage after his knock-out performance in 2009, with his brilliant E Street Band. Headlining the rock festival on Saturday night, he will be joined by names such as Lady Antebellum and John Fogerty; Friday's names include Soundgarden, Iggy and the Stooges, and Kids in Glass Houses, and finishing the mouth-dropping weekend is the brilliant Paul Simon on Sunday. Impressed?
It is with a beaming smile that I recollect my experience Hard Rock Calling 2011, when Las Vegas rockers The Killers made their comeback by playing straight into London's heart for Hard Rock's 50th Anniversary; having tasted the wonders of this glorious festival, I can safely admit that it is every music lover's dream. In amongst the sea of band T-shirts and flowery headbands, you can never deny the pure ecstasy on every face in the crowd; from the countless beer stands and merchandise stools to the endless chances to get your face on the big screen, this festival is one of unrivalled quality.
Although staged in the centre of one of London's most famous parks, once through those festival gates, you are in a musical utopia for the night. And if you're one for unexpected faces, this is the festival for you; last year's festival weekend saw Prince Harry enjoying shots with the cast of GLEE whilst waiting for The Killers to perform. And I'm sure that's not the most bizarre this festival has/will see. Rain or shine, mud or dust; beautiful things are to be expected from this year's Hard Rock Calling as the old and great meet the new and fresh names in music.
So, if you fancy witnessing a weekend of pure musical history, get yourself along to Hyde Park; satisfaction guaranteed.
