A Friendly Village Chip
The Happy Plaice
Fish and Chips is one of the most popular takeaway choices in Britain. Much loved for well over 150 years, many a household around the UK will choose fish and chips as their traditional Friday night dinner.
The fish & chips are cooked fresh to order
This weekend, I came across the Happy Plaice mobile fish and chip shop. It was set up at an event at Milton Manor and was the main choice of lunch option. A long queue stretched towards it and although the queue was moving rapidly I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the wait.
With each dish cooked fresh to order and the looks of satisfaction from customers how had been served, I knew I would have to persevere.
The clean fresh van wasn't the usual grubby set up and I ordered two cod and chips. The batter was crisp, the fish beautifully flaked and the chips delicious. The usual sauces were available to go with it and a cheeky pickled egg if you fancied that too. My husband comes from 'up north' and has never been satisfied with our local offerings but declared that these were the best he'd had in the area. We quickly wolfed down our lunch and were more than happy.
The portions are a good size and good value with a small cod at £3.70 and a medium at £4.00. They have a range of other options available from sausages to burgers too.
When not at events the Happy Plaice can be found at various different local villages. So if you're looking for a decent fish and chip supper or to hire for an event, I'd recommend the Happy Plaice.
