I wonder how many of us would be so fond of our Mars a day, if we realised that 'rest, work, and play', could be the end of the orangutans. Mars Bars, and thousands of other worldwide consumer products use palm oil in their ingredients (often labelled as vegetable fat). The increase in demand has lead to sever loss of orangutan habitat as palm oil plantations expand in places such as Borneo, Sumatra, and South East Asia.
Realising the urgent need for action, charitable organisations such as
Land Trust Orangutan Land Trust ,
The Orangutan Project , and the
Orang Utan Republik Foundation have joined forces in a global effort to do something before it is too late.
On the 7th July at 6pm, they are holding a special presentation called
, in which they hope to raise funds and awareness to help their cause. It will be held at
The Hub King's Cross , and the evening will begin with a presentation from world renowned orangutan experts such as Michelle Desilets, Leif Cocks, and Garry Sundin. Drinks and nibbles will be provided, and there will be an auction and
raffle to follow.
Tickets are £12 for adults and £10 concessions. If you cannot make the event, but would like to be there in spirit, you can also purchase a 'spirit' ticket by donating £10.
