There are restaurants, and then there are restaurants...

[B Hakkasan]** is one such of these places. It has all the boxes ticked for one of those destination restaurants: it is satisfyingly well-hidden (being located off a side street, which is itself a side street to both Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road; the restaurant from the outside gives absolutely no indication of what the place is like inside, and it goes by reputation than by advertising.

The Hakkasan of Hanway Place is not the only one to exist (indeed there is another one even in London, as well as more worldwide), but this is the original, and therefore the one by which all the others are measured.

So, what is it? Well, it is modern Chinese cuisine. How modern? Well have a look at some of their signature dishes - including Peking duck with caviar, and you'll see why this restaurant has held a Michelin star for its creations...

There are also cocktails to savour inside the luxurious surroundings of black and gold - and sometimes even events which you can learn how to put them together.

So should you really want to impress somebody special, take them to the place that uses special as its everyday language of operation - prepare to be seriously impressed (and a little disorientated on leaving - remember your in a side street of a side street!)
