Glaswegian rockers Gun are back on the road following the October release of their album,
The Calton Songs. The UK tour includes a show at
The Queens Hall, Nuneaton , on December 2, 2022, and a massive hometown party at
Barrowland Ballroom on December 10.
Since 1989, when they released debut album
Taking On The World,
Gun have toured with The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi and Iron Maiden, and had eight UK Top 40 singles and three UK Top 20 albums.
The current line-up is Dante Gizzi (lead vocals), Giuliano 'Jools' Gizzi (guitar), Paul McManus (drums), Andy Carr (bass) and Tommy Gentry (guitar).
The Calton Songs album, which takes its name from the area of Glasgow where the band grew up and where they still write their music, features acoustic reinterpretations of the songs that made them famous, and a new fully electric track,
Backstreet Brothers.
Taking On The World announced the band to a global audience in 1989. The follow-up was
Gallus which featured the track
Higher Ground.
The Calton Songs follows-up 2017's
Favourite Pleasures which made the top 15, making it Gun's biggest album in almost a quarter of a century, since
Swagger in 1994.
In 2022, the acclaim for Gun continues. During November they were honoured with the Rock Legend award at Hard Rock Hell in Great Yarmouth and received the Hard Rock Café Legends award at the Scottish Music Awards, the flagship event for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity.
Giuliano Gizzi said: "
It honestly means the world to us to be honoured in this way. We have had incredible support from our fans for years but for industry giants like these outside of our fan group to recognise what we do and what we work so hard on is beautiful, really fulfilling."
It's hard at times for bands these days and awards like these are a real boost, a lift to us all and just vindication really. Nordoff-Robbins is a charity we have loved and supported for as long as I can remember, so receiving the Hard Rock Café Legend award from them is fantastic. And the Hard Rock Hell award was an amazing surprise too, that national recognition from an iconic brand means the world."
Talking about
The Carlton Songs album, Giuliano added: "
When the pandemic hit, we realised that it was the perfect time to try and counteract the bleakness that was all around. It felt like we couldn't write anything, or of course tour. Out of that darkness came a desire to completely rework these songs that we know the fans love, and bring a different, stripped-down vibe."
