You are standing in Covent Garden's cobbled piazza on a cold crisp December morning. Many might think you are there to do some Christmas shopping at its famous market. They'd be wrong. Instead of lines of stalls and handmade gifts, a huge obstacle course stands in its place - complete with inflatable slide.

Contestants are dressed up as penguins, Christmas trees, reindeer, and Santas as they prepare to negotiate the track whilst carefully balancing a Christmas pudding on a tray. Welcome to the thirty-fourth Great Xmas Pudding Race .

On the 6th December, teams will be raising money for Cancer Research in an event of all out silliness. Last year the race raised a staggering £21,000, but of course, this year, the aim is to do even better.

Teams are made up of six friends (okay, it doesn't have to be friends, but who wants to team up with their enemy) and registration coasts £90 (£15 per person). If you would rather just watch, that is free, but donations are welcome.

The countdown to the race begins at 11.15am, and includes two qualifying races before the grand final. There will also be a fancy dress parade, warm up Zumba session, and live performances from Viva La Bop .
