Grand Union Canal

137 miles and 166 locks, the is vast and is split up into sections. For London, it's the Regent's Canal and the Hertford Union Canal. It's more than a canal. Lined with colourful street-art, running under a variety of bridges and a mixture of old developed warehouses and new-builds on either side. It makes for a wonderful walk.
There are a variety of points at which you can join and exit the canal, therefore each walk is different. It is after all, 13.8 kilometres long. For a taster however, a great place to join the canal is at the end of Broadway Market where Regent's Row meets Andrew's Road, and walk along the canal until you reach
Victoria Park . On this section of the canal, one side has the walls decorated in graffiti and hanging plants, whilst the other has a variety of architecture styles including a small area named
ContainerVille . ContainerVille is a small area of 30 offices, start-ups and pop-ups in up-cycled shipping containers- a fun site to pass on the walk.
As the surrounding area has become so popular, it rarely matters where you exit the canal. Restaurants, shops and public transport is never far away.
Canal boats line the river, some of which are pop-up shops and cafes, though the majority are often residential. They prove great for photo opportunities, as do the range of plants and flowers that grow along the path.
If you choose to take a different route along the canal, the options are endless. The Regent's Canal passes through many of London's landmarks: Kings Cross, Camden Lock and
London Zoo are but some.
For the avid cyclist, dog-walkers or runner, it's definitely the place to go. If you don't have your own bike, the surrounding area has many points at which you can pick up one of London's
Santander Bikes for hire.
If you're looking for a mere stroll however, the path can get busy due to a mixture of cyclists, dog-walkers and runners who use the river-path; but be aware of your surroundings and stick to one side and you'll have a pleasant walk.
