Former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding and Hollyoaks hunk Andy Moss lead the cast in love story
Ghost The Musical in a new tour heading to the Midlands.
The pair will be playing the roles made famous by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the film, including the iconic sexy pottery wheel scene to The Righteous Brother's Unchained Melody. It will be Harding's stage debut.
Taking its inspiration from the classic movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, this production is described as an "innovative re-imagining" of the story featuring an expanded book, new music and an original staging.
The show tours to the West Midlands, reaching Birmingham's
New Alexandra Theatre from Monday 19 September to Saturday 24 September, 2016 and then at
Malvern Festival Theatre from April 3 to 8, 2017.
The story opens with Sam being murdered as he walks back to his apartment late one night, leaving his beloved girlfriend Molly alone, in despair and utterly lost.
Through a strange turn of fate, despite being a ghost, Sam is able to communicate with a phoney psychic and help rescue Molly from grave danger.
Mixing comedy, romance and a murder mystery, Ghost the movie won two Academy Awards for best original screenplay and best actress in a supporting role for Goldberg. It was also the highest grossing film in the year of its release. This Bill Kenwright production plans to maintain that success with a script by Bruce Joel Rubin, based on his Oscar-winning screenplay, and music written by multi Brit-Award winner Dave Stewart and Grammy award winning Glen Ballard.
Playing Sam is Andy Moss, best known for starring as Rhys Ashworth in Channel 4's Hollyoaks, who has also been seen in shows from Cutting It to Coronation Street and BBC soap opera Doctors.
While Harding has starred in TV and film roles like
St Trinians 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold and in
Coronation Street, but this is the first time she has tread the boards in a theatre role.
For over ten years, Harding was part of pop ground Girls Aloud achieving 20 consecutive Top Ten singles, including 4 Number 1 singles and two Number 1 albums. Harding said, "I'm absolutely delighted to be making my theatre debut in Ghost - The Musical. The film is one of my all-time favourites, so to get the opportunity to play 'Molly' in Bill Kenwright's new production is a huge honour for me and I can't wait to get started."
Scriptwriter Bruce Joel Rubin added: "This is a show with such a strong emotional and musical life that it can mould to many visions and interpretations. It can be performed on any scale, and its vibrant heart will still captivate an audience and allows the imagination to flourish. It is purely theatrical in the greatest sense."
