I've been meaning to review this darling of a venue in Sutton Coldfield for ages, here it is.
Gavino's in Sutton is possibly one of my favourite venues to dine in with my family - it's not too loud, busy, but not claustrophobic, and the menu is full of classic Italian dishes, so it's perfect for fussy eaters like my cousins.
I dined here weeks ago with my mother and two sisters. We were all eager to order because of a numbers of factors: the pasta is home made, all of the sauces are home-made, and the bolognese is cooked for 3 hours for tender, flavoursome meat.
Considering I'm pretty picky, I thought I'd venture out of my box. Instead of a chicken or beef dish I decided on prawn linguine. The fish was so fresh and, as per usual, the spaghetti was perfect. I'm not sure what it is about their recipe but the pasta, quite literally, melts in your mouth. Needless to say I ate my food in silence, not wanting to waste time talking (!)
My sisters both ordered the bolognese and it looked as good as it tasted. The Italian serve adults with generous portions, and like any good Italian restaurant, offer parmesan with the meal.
After filling our faces with enough Italian fare, we were thinking of leaving, but we were presented with the dessert menu and thought it would have been rude not to, at least, look at what they offer.
In my family, however, sometimes just reading the word 'chocolate' is enough to make us all weak at the knees. As we looked over the dessert menu, it was pretty clear what we all wanted: chocolate cake. That was how it was described on the menu and it is exactly what two of us were served - we decided to share the two desserts between the four of us.
