The Garden Festival 2013
For the first time, Richmond Upon Thames will celebrate the history and future of their beautiful gardens in The Garden Festival 2013. Explore horticultural landscapes on guided walks, learn about Richmond's heritage in a series of talks & lectures, and have fun with the family with a number of theatrical performances and children's activities. The festival began in May, and will continue right through to the end of October. Many of the events are free, and most don't go over £10.

A visual arts project that depicts Princess Amelia's Arcadian vista.

Guided walks will include on-going tours of the Isabella Plantation, Kew Gardens, and Ham House. There will also be a £9 walk along Twickenham riverside on the 22nd June & 9th July and £10 walk along the Thames on the 8th June & 15th July.

The Kilmorey Mausoleum is a uniquely Egyptian style building, with a magical garden, maintained by using sustainable methods.
The Shell Grotto
8th July, Hampton Court House, Free
See the 18th century grotto built by the Earl of Halifax. It is a Grade 2 listed building and was fully restored in 1986.
National Gardens Scheme Open Day

Regular tours throughout the day will take you through the Cherry Garden, where you can admire the symmetrical design, and the heritage vegetables.
Performances include a free stage play of Julius Ceasar at the Orange Tree Theatre on the 8th June, and Tom Stoppard's Arcadia at the Hampton Hill Playhouse between 29th September - 5th October. Tickets are £8.
Everyone can enjoy a creative day out with Emily Burton's Art Picnic. She will give £20 tuition (free for under 12s) classes in painting and drawing on the 23rd June at Garrick's Temple to Shakespeare and on the 21st July at Heron Square. There will be a third Art Picnic at Richmond's Terrace Gardens on the 7th September. These £10 classes will be taught by Jill Storey, where you will learn to paint the Victorian Pleasure Garden.
There will be plenty of other activities throughout the year, including an Antiques Roadshow, Herbal Workshop, and evening lectures.
