The Frankfurt Market is located in Victoria Square on New Street - just a few minutes walk from New Street Station - it runs up to 22 December and is a real favourite and highlight of the holiday season for locals and visitors alike. The combined craft market is in the adjacent Chamberlain Square and spreads to Centenary Square.
It has been running for 11 years and just seems to get bigger and better each year, especially with the addition of the craft market. Offering everything you could hope for across around 190 stalls, you could pick up some lovely unique Christmas presents such as hand crafted toys, gifts, decorations, craft items, candles and jewellery.
There is a cute carousel and some small rides and lots of trees and fairy lights to keep the kids entertained, not to mention all the yummy sweet stalls, such as gingerbread, creeps and marzipan stalls.
Being the Frankfurt Market, it wouldn't be right without traditional German delights such as mulled wine, grilled sausages, pretzels, breads and German beer stalls. It has the feel of a small village with its adorable wooden chalets and diverse stalls, but is set within the heart of the bustling Birmingham city centre and is now the largest authentic German market outside of Germany and Austria.
It has traditional live music entertainment each lunchtime and evening, which adds to the already vibrant atmosphere and combined with the sounds of people chatting and laughing and the wonderful aroma of food in the air - it really is an experience to cherish.
Open from 10am till 9pm everyday, it really is just a gorgeous market, which is just a few minutes from the High Street and Bull Ring and Pallasades shopping centres. Birmingham has been twinned with Frankfurt for over 40 years and this market is a celebration of both these wonderful cities offering a traditional Frankfurt vibe together with championing local talented artisans and showcasing imported good from all over the world.
If you live in Birmingham, you know Christmas is just around the corner when the market starts to set up, and it's one of my favourite places to visit to get in the Christmas mood. Its the perfect place to visit after a long day of Christmas shopping or to meet friends and family and celebrate the coming holidays.
