Stars in store as bookshop opens with a fanfare of publicity
The opening of the new Foyles bookstore in Charing Cross Road is being celebrated with three weeks of literary and cultural events.
Michael Palin will be along to open the travel department on 11 June and Jarvis Cocker will open the music department on 12 June.
Hilary Mantel, author of Wolf Hall and Bringing up the Bodies, will formally open the store on 13 June, and give a talk on the Tudors. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is booked to open the business department on 19 June.
Other authors and speakers taking part include PD James, Meg Rossof, Grayson Perry, Sebastian Faulks, Mary Beard, Simon Armitage, Mark Kermode, Anthony Horowitz, Michael Rosen, Val McDermid, Owen Jones and Hadley Freeman.
Jazz music will also feature in the programme. The festival runs from 11 June to 5 July. Ticketed talks, events and workshops are priced from £5 - £18. Some events are free but booking is essential www.foyles.co.uk/festival
