Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher were just two regular Americans with a hobby. They liked to collect video tapes. Just like all of us, they searched out bargains at thrift shops and garage sales, buying old VHS tapes. Then in 2004, they had an idea. Why not share their collection with the world? And so the Found Footage Festival was born. It is a one-of-a-kind event featuring hilarious and oddball scenes from the forgotten days of way back when. From 1991s
F.A.R.T: The Movie (which is as bad as it sounds) to a children's Christian television called
Color Me a Rainbow (1987), and adverts about Bingo, the buddy duo are touring the UK & USA with their vast collection.
Now you could be asking why bother to pay £15 when you probably have dozens of old VHS tapes at home? Our cupboard is filled with recorded tapes that no doubt have some retro adverts from the 1990s stashed away. There are two reasons that might entice you: first, the footage is from America, so it will be different from our UK recordings; second, Joe and Nick give running commentaries of everything you show, so you get to know a little about where the programme came from. If you are interested in seeing some utter rubbish, then you can
book tickets from Soho Theatre.
