Three Of The 80s Pop Sensations Are Back Together On Stage
They were one of the best selling bands of the 1980s, and also brought Eurovision Song Contest glory to the UK. And 35 years on from that wonderful success in 1981, three-quarters of the original Bucks Fizz line-up is back performing live across the UK. As a result of copyright issues, the three original members of Bucks Fizz, namely Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, have to call themselves Formerly Of Bucks Fizz. This is because the fourth original member, Bobby G, continues to perform in a band called Bucks Fizz as his wife holds the rights to the name.

Whatever the legal argument, Formerly Of Bucks Fizz boasts three of the original line-up of the pop group that sold more than 15 million records and spent an amazing 219 weeks in the UK charts alone. They became one of the UK's biggest pop acts after Eurovision in 1981 when they performed their famous skirt-ripping dance routine. The winning Eurovision song, Making Your Mind Up, went to number one in nine countries and was later followed by hit singles including My Camera Never Lies and Land of Make Believe.

More than three decades later, original Bucks Fizz members Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston and Mike Nolan are currently ripping skirts off once again to cheers from thousands of their loyal fans as well as completely new audiences. They have been joined by ex-Sweet Dreams vocalist Bobby McVay who signed up in 2015 to maintain four members of the band. It is all a far cry from early in 1981 when four complete strangers sat down together in a house in London to be told "you are now Bucks Fizz". There then followed weeks of intense rehearsing, recording, interviews and photo sessions before they were ready to claim victory in A Song for Europe and the Eurovision Song Contest that followed it, and so change their lives forever.
