Football is one of the world's most popular sports, played by millions in just about every country in the world.
On Saturdays and Sundays, in a corner of Clapham Common, about a 10 minute walk from the tube and near to Stormont Road Flexi Football takes place, bringing 88 people together per weekend who are looking for a kick-around on full grass pitches in an 11-a-side game.
Flexi Football is a simple but completely original idea. Sometimes all you want is a decent game of football, right? – perhaps a bit more than a jumpers-as-goalposts session, but not so organised that you have to be a member of a team and commit to matches on a regular basis.
This is where Flexi Football comes in. The organisers of Flexi Football do all the organising for you – so you don't have to organise a thing.
All you have to do is go to their website, choose the date, time and position you want and pay via paypal. You can sign up with friends or by yourself, making it a great way to meet new people too; perfect for people who've just moved to the city, or for those visiting. Full teams of 11 can also sign up and snag do's. Birthday parties often take place on the field before taking full use of Flexi Football's sponsors and heading onto one of the local bars for cheap food and bar deals that Flexi Football also offer.
Flexi Football is ideal for everyone. A kit of a shirt and shorts are provided (although some people prefer to wear their own), you are put in an 11-a-side team, you play for 90 minutes on full size pitches and have a real, living, breathing referee to keep order. It couldn't be more simple.
Matches take place every weekend, kicking off at 10.30am and 1pm. Half the fun is that if you sign up alone or even just with a few friends, you never know who your team mates are going to be, and you have no clue about your opponents either.
All levels of fitness and ability are welcome. The main thing is to get out there and have a fun game of football.
