Whitstable has plenty of places to eat, but as it's a seaside town, many people come here for fish and chips. You can order this traditional British dish at many of the pubs, cafes and restaurants, but it's hard to beat the good old chippy for value. There are 3 fish and chip shops in Whitstable but which one is the best?



VC Jones of Whitstable

Found at 25 Harbour Street, this fish and chip shop has been in Whitstable for years. The interior still has some of the old wording painted on the glass that separates the eat-in section from the takeaway counter. They cook the chips in beef fat here and that's what gives them a distinct taste. These are my favourite, but they aren't good for vegetarians or vegans! They only take cash in VC Jones - no cards at all. In the summer the queue on a Friday night goes out of the door and along the street so they can run out of certain fish before closing a 8pm. Open 7 days a week.



Ossie's Fish Bar

There are lots of Ossie's chippies in the area, there is one in Tankerton and Faversham too. The one in Whitstable is at 11 High Street and very easy to find. The staff here are very friendly and will hand you a chip or 2 while you wait for your order to be prepared. Their portions are very generous and prices cheap. Exactly what you want from a local fish and chip shop. They have an eat-in section too if you want a plate, table and chair but I like mine out of the paper while I sit on the beach.





Seven Seas Fish and Chips

Seven Seas is located at 24 Canterbury Road a little way out of the main shopping street. It's the first one you would see if you enter Whitstable from the motorway. The fish and chips come out of the fryer super clean from here, this might be down to the rape-seed oil they use. They have a bright eat-in area thanks to the large picture windows and in my opinion, this is the nicest chip shop to sit down in.



All three of the chip shops in Whitstable are great, each one offers something a little different. VC Jones is my favourite for the chips and it's just around the corner from the beach. Ossies is the most generous and Seven Seas has the best eat-in area.
