It's beginning to look a lot like Xmas - or soon will
Shops and businesses within Tamworth town centre in Staffordshire are being invited to bring Christmas cheer to visitors by entering a festive windows competition. With the current Covid-19 restrictions dragging on for months, and showing no signs of easing, the traditional yuletide season is going to feel quite a bit different this year. But that is not going to stop people in Tamworth from doing all they can to still bring some Christmas cheer to the town with a new Festive Window competition. Tamworth Borough Council's Arts and Events team is calling on all town centre businesses and shops to join in the festive spirit and go all out in decorating their shop windows this year as part of the competition. The aim is for the town centre to shine and sparkle in all the colours of Christmas, giving families, residents and visitors from surrounding areas more reasons to shop local this Christmas.
Brighten up Christmas with a Festive Windows competition
Businesses are encouraged to take part by decorating their shop window in any Christmas display or theme of their choosing - they just have to make sure it's as bright as possible, incorporating lights and sparkle. All displays should be revealed and lights switched on by November 28. All participating businesses will be listed on the Visit Tamworth website as well as promoted on its social media platforms throughout December. Members of the public will be asked to vote for their favourite display via social media and judges will then walk around town towards the end of December to choose what they consider the most impressive. As well as the honour of being the best, the competition winners will also get additional free publicity on Visit Tamworth web pages.
Councillor Jeremy Oates, Tamworth Borough Council's Cabinet member for heritage and growth, said: "As we are all aware, due to the pandemic lots of events won't be taking place this Christmas, including our popular town lights switch on event. But we hope that some planned Covid-19 safe activities can still bring some Christmas cheer and make the town as festive and inviting as possible. The window competition is an ideal way to give shoppers and visitors more reason to shop local and support the town centre. We invite all businesses to join in and be a part of the Christmas spirit."
