Best foot forward to explore the great outdoors

Set out to explore London on foot by joining one of the free events run by Ramblers in and around the capital this winter.

The Festival of Winter Walks invites people of all ages to enjoy the great outdoors, with a seven-mile woodland ramble around Epping Forest on Sunday 30 December.

For a more urban experience, take a five mile walk from Rotherhithe to Westminster on 29 December, via Tower Bridge, the South Bank and the Houses of Parliament.

Other routes to choose from include Notting Hill, Regents Canal, Richmond and Chelsea, and there's also a chance to check out the Olympic Park.

The Festival of Winter Walks runs from 22 December to 6 January 2013.
