Feria de Abril en Londres

I know it's not April, it's May - but when did technical details ruin a good excuse for a party? If you like flamenco, or know someone who does, this is the time to get your best clobber on and head along to Church Hall of Holy Apostles on Sunday for a day of wine, dancing and food.

A little about each...

The wine part would be best consumed in the traditional Spanish way, mixed with fruit, gaseosa (a type of Spanish lemonade), and perhaps a little brandy, topped up with a fistful of ice cubes - this concoction, known as sangria, will be readily available, and as it will be home-made, is definitely recommended.

The dancing will mostly consist of Sevillanas, a type of dance done with a partner originating from the region of Seville. It was traditionally a folk dance, but now acts as a social dance which everyone in Spain seems to know and be able to do. Tempted to have a go? There will be unlimited dancing of this style at the event, and if you haven't done it before, don't worry, your partner will show you how...

Finally, the food will come from the excellent Spanish Lab - a group of modern thinking Spanish foodies who like to play with the traditions of Spain, creating delicious tapas of the style of chorizo burgers and boiled octopus with potato. Rumour has it that one of the most delicious Spanish dishes - paella - could be on the cards for Sunday, something you really must try.

The Feria de Abril is a traditional event from Seville, and lovingly recreated here by the Pena Flamenca de Londres . As well as everything I have described, there will also be live music, stalls, decorations, and assorted other goodies.

The only thing left to say - head along on Sunday and find out why Spain is justly known for its parties, you won't regret it...
