Shakespeare-Inspired Family Fun Day

Families are invited to a free Shakespeare-inspired Fun Day at the Library of Birmingham on Saturday 26 February organised by the Everything to Everybody project. Taking place between 11am-4pm, the day will include arts, crafts, photography, stage fighting, spoken word and a treasure hunt.



The Fun Day brings together the skills of Stan's Cafe, Birmingham Centre for Art Therapies, poet and hip hop artist Kurly, and stage combat specialists Sword Dance for a programme of Bard-inspired activities for all ages and abilities.

With a printing workshop inspired by plants, the chance for children to create and perform their own poetry or some of the words of Shakespeare, an opportunity to have a go at duelling, fairy stories for babies and toddlers and a trail through the building, there will be activities for all ages.

The Everything to Everybody project celebrates the Birmingham Shakespeare Memorial Library which was founded in 1864 for the citizens of Birmingham.

Everything to Everybody project director Professor Ewan Fernie said: "We are delighted to be working with a range of our community partners to showcase things from the collection that have really inspired them. There are lots of ways that visitors on the day will be able to get involved – from learning stage combat moves, creating their own Shakespeare-inspired poetry, and by delving into our costume box and performing Shakespeare for themselves. It's all part of a great city-wide celebration and recovery of Birmingham's unique and brilliant democratic Shakespeare heritage."

On the day, visitors can also enjoy a glimpse behind the scenes at Birmingham REP, who are also hosting a free Open Day on 26 February.



A collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, with funding contributed by National Lottery Heritage Fund and History West Midlands, Everything to Everybody organises events to ensure the Birmingham Shakespeare Memorial Library is at the heart of the community.
