I do love the excitement and buzz about a new venue, especially a cafe: it holds the promise of proper coffee, exceptional eats and a good brew. It has been open for just a few weeks, but word is out about the city's newest independent coffee shop – it was almost full when we popped in a few days ago. I'm talking about Faculty Coffee of course.

It's easy to see why it was so busy: the coffee is excellent. I'm not big on the caffeine scene, and I only ever drink a very milky latte, but seem to have twisted my arm.

Not only did I order a coffee, I ordered a cappuccino, which was presented to me oh so prettily, and I'm a sucker for presentation.

The staff are downright lovely and it's moments away from New Street station. Too often have I run out of the station, in dire need of a proper cuppa, and it seems Faculty have answered my prayers.

Every day there's a new selection of homemade cakes on the counter, too. My friends and I were quite taken by the banana loaf, which we'll definitely be back for, but the baked Nutella doughnuts seemed to be the star sellers. We'll work our way through them all, of course.
