Get ready for a wild ride with "" – yes, the name is almost as long as the event itself. This mixed media extravaganza is the brainchild of Company Four, who threw together everything from spoken word to puppets to tackle the rather serious topic of Postpartum Psychosis, which for some reason, only seems to affect around 2 in every 1000 new mums. Bet you didn't know that was a thing, right? Well, it is, and they're here to set the record straight.
Based on the intriguing tale of Mary Ann Barker, an ancestor of one of the artists, the exhibition highlights her struggles in 1900 after welcoming her son, Jack. Don't get too worried though; Jack makes his grand entrance as a Bunraku puppet, so it's not all doom and gloom. With the help of Action on Postpartum Psychosis, this showcase not only revisits the past but also gives a voice to modern mums who've walked a similar path. They're on a mission to reduce the stigma surrounding maternal mental health, all while having a bit of fun. Because let's face it, if you can't laugh a little while diving into the serious stuff, then what's the point?
