On March 21, 2025, at 6 PM, Bonington Gallery is tossing open its doors for a thrilling first look at Weird Hope Engines, a fancy new exhibition dedicated to the quirky world of tabletop roleplaying games—yes, those beloved dice-rolling adventures that often have you screaming at your mates over who forgot to bring the snacks. Curated by the trio of David Blandy, Rebecca Edwards, and Jamie Sutcliffe, the gallery is transforming into a funky hybrid lab where imagination reigns supreme. Think of it as a magical place where you can stumble upon maps, needlessly complicated rulebooks, and all sorts of uniquely bizarre gaming artifacts while mingling with fellow enthusiasts who share your love for rolling dice and creating mayhem.
But wait, there's more—while you're at it, check out the Bonington Vitrines featuring Nottingham Subcultural Fashion in the 1980s. Here, you'll find a treasure trove of archival goodies that give a nod to the eclectic independent fashion scene of Nottingham that influenced a generation. Dress like it's 1985, learn about the fearless styles that once ruled the streets, and possibly wonder how we survived wearing those outfits. Grab yourself a free welcome drink and some tasty nibbles (keep your eyes peeled, they go fast), and enjoy some tunes while you soak in the atmosphere. Just remember to snag a free ticket if you don't want to risk being the one left out in the cold.
