With an interest in telling narratives, it only seems natural that
Lindsay Seers's latest project be based on the world of theatre.
Entangled Squared, an exhibition at Matt's Gallery until 1st December, merges art with performance, as Seers brings together photography, stage, props, and actors.
Victorian Vaudeville acts are brought back to life, including re-enacted performances of male impersonators, Hetty King and Vesta Tilly. With the addition of androgynous characters, such as
Sailor Girl, Seers explores the dichotomy of opposites: male/female, truth/lies, the self/the other.
The gallery space is transformed into a set, which couples can view through two windows. The screens inside will provide a continuous slideshow of platonic forms, such as inflated balls, beach balls, and eyeballs.
