Now midway through his career, the Antwerp-based artist, Jan Kempenaers, is exhibiting at the Breese Little Gallery to present a collection of new and recent work. The photographer favours stark but understated images, preferring the picture to speak for itself through unusual vantage points and highly considered composition, rather than Photoshop enhancements. At least most of the time. Some of Kempenaers's most renowned work is his Spomenik series of World War Two memorials, commissioned by General Tito in the 1960s-1970s. A number of these will be featured alongside a new series called Ghost Spomeniks, which are monochrome re-workings of the originals.
Also on display, you will be able to see S.F. – L.A. (2010), which documents Kempenaers's road trip down the West Coast of America, where he took photos of trees, cacti, and other plants along the route. Enjoy The Process is free to visit and open until the 25th October.
