End of the Rainbow, which first premiered at the Sydney Opera House in Australia in 2005, kicks off its 2016 UK tour on February 12, but will also be making a welcome appearance at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre from May 16 to 18.
Peter Quilter's acclaimed End of the Rainbow is set in 1968 with Judy Garland, a once-glittering star, about to make her comeback in London. But off stage, holed up in her hotel room, she is battling with her young new fiancι, her devoted accompanist, and her destructive addictions.
This fiercely funny and emotionally charged show features Garland's most memorable songs such as The Man That Got Away, Come Rain Or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and of course Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
Lisa Maxwell, who is best known for her role as Samantha Nixon in ITV's The Bill from 2002 to 2009, will be making her stage acting debut in End of the Rainbow.
Gary Wilmot will be appearing alongside Lisa Maxwell
She will be performing alongside Gary Wilmot whose musical theatre career began when he played Bill Snibson in the hit production of Me and My Girl at the Adelphi Theatre. Since then he has gone on to star in a number of top West End or touring musicals including The Pajama Game, Chicago, Half a Sixpence, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Completing the starring roles is Sam Attwater who made his TV acting debut in 2009, playing Ricky in Hollyoaks, and has since appeared as Brad in the 40th Anniversary tour of The Rocky Horror Show, Dreamboats and Petticoats in the West End, and the 2014 UK Tour of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He also won the sixth series of ITV's Dancing on Ice in 2011.
Sam Attwater joining UK tour of End of the Rainbow
After premiering in Australia in 2005, End of the Rainbow played at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival the following year before returning to the UK in 2010 in a new production, transferring to the West End the same year where it ran for six months and received four Olivier Award nominations.
A Broadway run followed in 2012, where it received three Tony Award nominations.
