Okay- I am not going to make this only about intergalactic celestial battles fought somewhere in outer space. In 2016, we have a generation of people whose knowledge of the Star War series can take them to a Mastermind quiz contest with that as their specialist subject!
But what I will say is that having just visited my local Empire Sutton cinema to catch an almost private viewing (yes, it was a saver Tuesday morning and there were 5 of us in total!), I was struck by the many things that theatre offers. One- Empire Juniors on a Saturday morning. Kids and their parents are charged only £1.25 each to watch some U- rated movies. From the list for this month, there were some pretty decent ones screening over the next few weeks. Then, there is the Empire Seniors offer of £3 per ticket on a Weds morning. And, then still, some of the Empire theatres do a 'parent and baby' version as well which have 'lights up' and 'sound down' screenings.
I also picked up some leaflets about having birthday parties there, starting from a very competitive rate of £6.50 per child. Have to check out that one when I have a bit more time.
So, what of 'The Force Awakens' then, I hear you ask. Well, for someone like me who has never been (and perhaps never will be) a Star Wars fan- I can definitely say 'been there, done that'. The visual graphics, special effects et al were a treat for the senses- seeing it in 3D made it all the more superlative. It culminated in obviously the obvious - the good guys win over the bad ones (which I suspect has been the theme for the previous series too!). But, hey, for those die hard fans out there- just another excuse to see their favourite characters resurrected yet again through this latest in the series- and why not!
