The legend that is
Elkie Brooks superbly turned back the clock to remind her fans just what an outstanding singer she has been, and still is! 'The Elk' enjoyed a sell-out concert at the
Lichfield Garrick theatre as part of her latest national tour. Elkie is rightly lauded as one of the most successful British female artists of all time with a string of hit singles, million selling albums and numerous music awards to her name. Elkie's regular live tours have always been well received by her fans, old and new, and this one proved to be no different.

Elkie Brooks was in great voice on new UK tour
Elkie, who was backed by an impressive five-piece band, was in great form, and superb voice, from the very start. She certainly remains as wonderfully expressive and animated as in her early days singing with the band Vinegar Joe. She began this excellent concert with "He Could Have Been An Army" from her 1979 album Live And Learn, and quickly followed with familiar and still much-loved favourites including "Gasoline Alley", "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man", and "Warm And Tender Love", which she described as her favourite song from her 1981 Pearls album.

Now in the sixth decade of her illustrious career, Elkie remarked that she has 57 lines on her face - one for every year she has been in the music business. Despite the passing years her powerful, husky voice remains undiminished as she reeled off a string of classic hits including "Fool (If You Think It's Over)", "Sunshine After The Rain", "Don't Cry Out Loud", "No More The Fool", "Pearl's a Singer", and the still brilliant "Lilac Wine". But there were plenty of other excellent songs in her repertoire, in particular a lovely rendition of "Make You Feel My Love", which was written by folk legend Bob Dylan and proved a recent hit for Adele.
