Eldorado at the
Arcola Theatre is not to be missed and will have you gripped throughout. The story reveals all about a business man named Anton, who has everything; a dream house, artistic wife and a baby on the way. Anton is a highly successful estate agent and makes a fortune from rebuilding the wreckage from cities that have been hit by coalition bombs. But what happens when his perfect life suddenly starts to go horribly wrong and begins to slowly self-destruct?
From the very beginning you are lured into this touching story and straight away you feel like you know each of the characters personally. Each scene is full of either drama or comedy regarding Anton's marriage and his day to day life struggling to work in a war zone.
Eldorado asks what happens when the drive for success carries us past our coping point.
German playwright
Marius von Mayenburg is renowned as one of Europe's most influential and widely produced writers since his meteoric rise to prominence with
Fireface. The play is directed by
Simon Dormandy , who has worked with Cheek by Jowl, the Donmar Warehouse, the RSC and the Royal Court.
Mongrel Thumb is a brand new London based theatre company who certainly create a show that is challenging, exciting and unique.
Eldorado is the first play by the company and their performance was absolutely outstanding. The stage stays the same throughout the performance, but is remarkably transformed through the realistic use of lighting and exceptional acting.
The show is performed at the Arcola Theatre, a small theatre in London. This was the first time I had been to see a theatrical performance at such a small theatre, but it was certainly the best. I loved the intimacy of being so close to the actors and the music and lighting effects were superb. The Arcola Theatre is a hidden gem in London that has an incredibly rustic feel, almost like an actors workshop.
I highly recommend
Eldorado to anyone who loves theatre and dramatic performances.
