In the heart of the quintessential English University town of Cambridge lies The Eagle pub, dating back to the 17th Century.

The site it sits on was bequeathed to Corpus Christi college in 1525 and it is first listed as a commercial activity in 1667 as the "Eagle & Child Inn".

When you go in now the place has an old world charm about it that makes it welcoming and cosy.

We had a pint of the Eagle DNA which was a delicious, and presumably local brew.

For a late lunch I had the Fish and Chips, made with home made batter. Delicious and very filling.

Sophie had the Eagle platter consisting of blue cheese, ham, bread, pickle, salad and some great piccalilli.

The pub has been the place where local scientists from the Cavendish Laboratory would meet and it was in 1953 that Francis Crick and James Watson announced their discovery of the DNA Double Helix.

In the back room of the pub is the RAF bar where airmen from the second world war have made their mark on the ceiling. You can see names and squadron numbers from USAF and RAF pilots written here.
