The Renaissance was a time when artists had their creative lightbulbs switched on, transforming the way they approached their craft. Drawing, which used to be just a handy tool for getting things right in the workshop, became a superstar in its own right. Imagine sketching your ideas and having people go, "Wow, that's actually art."
This exhibition is a bit of a big deal, showcasing the most extensive collection of Italian Renaissance drawings ever to grace the UK. From 1450 to 1600, this collection highlights around 160 pieces by over 80 artists, including the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian. But don't worry, it's not all big names; you'll also stumble across some lesser-known talents who were just as passionate about making their mark. All the treasures are borrowed from the Royal Collection—yes, that one with some of the finest Renaissance drawings on the planet. So take a stroll to The King's Gallery at Buckingham Palace and get ready for a drawing extravaganza that might just inspire you to take up sketching, or at the very least, impress your mates with some fun facts.
