Christmas wouldn't be Christmas if there wasn't an element of strange, and slightly off key, to help make it all the more wonderful. A place which has 'the other' at the very core of it's being is Digbeth. This area of Birmingham is rich in the alternative, and with Christmas on it's way, a standard celebration, this certainly ain't.
Festivities take the form of Digmas this weekend, in no other than The Custard Factory, where all things festive and fun will be taking place.
Celebrate Christmas Digbeth-style at Digmas. The day-long festival includes a roller disco, live music, mulled wine, cocktails and food from Digbeth Dining Club (DDC). Try a toastie from Jabberwocky – inventive is an understatement.
It seems obvious that DDC is support Digmas because they are the revolution of streetfood in Birmingham. With the seasonal spirit in the air, food will have a Christmas kick, as will the drinks. Expect mugs of mulled wine, which will have more bite than the stuff you may have enjoyed in the past.Having been to DDC, I know the cocktails are somewhat lethal, but that's all part of the fun.
What really sets Digmas apart, however, is that is completely different from the council-funded Christmas market in the city centre. If you are a fan of the less-obvious, and would like to support the independents, Digmas is right up your street - I'll see you there.
