Leading children's TV entertainers Dick and Dom are to celebrate 20 years in the business by taking their madcap brand of humour on the road. The BAFTA award winning duo, whose real names are Richard McCourt (Dick) and Dominic Wood (Dom), will be unleashing a show that promises to get the whole family on their feet with a performance filled with weird and wonderful challenges and audience participation games under the warning strapline of "you may get messy". The stars of such memorable children's television shows as Diddy TV, Absolute Genius with Dick & Dom, The Legend of Dick & Dom and of course Dick & Dom in Da Bungalow, will be performing live on stage around the country, including imminent visits to the
Lichfield Garrick theatre on April 12, Solihull's
The Core Theatre on April 22.
Dick and Dom have certainly come a long way since they were first paired together in 1997 after both started their TV careers on children's BBC as individual presenters. A reinvention four years later, in 2001, led to the name Dick and Dom and the familiar duo we now know. They are primarily known for presenting Children's BBC in the 1990s, before moving onto the double BAFTA Award winning Dick and Dom in da Bungalow, a children's entertainment show that was broadcast live during weekend mornings on BBC One, CBBC and later BBC Two - eventually running for five series between 2002 and 2006.
From October 2007 to September 2008, they presented The Sunday Morning Show on BBC Radio 1 from 10am to 1pm and, around the same time, also presented Are You Smarter than a 10 Year Old? for two series on Sky 1. They also graduated to Diddy Dick and Dom in which they played themselves as miniaturised puppets. That led to a 30-minute show called Diddy Movies which has enjoyed a couple of series to date. Further new shows have followed on CBBC in recent years, including Dick and Dom's Funny Business, nature series Dick and Dom Go Wild, and Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom, an educational show that showed geniuses' work throughout the ages and how it has affected the modern world. They also began hosting the UK version of Splatalot! on CBBC and made their first film appearances in 'Horrid Henry: The Movie'. Their work was rewarded in 2014 with the Children's Presenter BAFTA Award for Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom and the Children's Comedy award for series two of Diddy Movies.
