Built in 1535, Sutton House is a beautiful Tudor building in Hackney. With original oak-panlled rooms, magnificent fireplaces, and a tranquil courtyard, it makes an excellent venue for the EFDSS Day of Folk festival on the 6th September.
Things will get underway from 2pm with a
Family Barn Dance . This two-hour high energy event is a way for families to socialise and have fun together. No experience is needed, as expert callers will guide you through all the steps.
Give yourself half an hour to rest before joining David Gibb at 4.30pm for his brand new show,
Letters Through Your Door . David is a 23 year old songwriter and storyteller who is on a mission to bring quality music to children. He takes an unusual look at everyday life through the medium of song. After each performance he will give a songwriting session, in which he and the audience will create an entirely new song that he'll perform. Both of these events are free, but booking is recommended.
The day will end with
Belshazzar's Feast at 7.30pm. Paul Hutchinson and Paul Sartin's foot-stomp-inducing performances are a mash of jazz, pop, and folk, with accordion music, singing, and humour. They recommend that any fans of Mozart, Beethoven, Elvis Presley, and The Spinners should stay away. Tickets to the show are £12.
