There aren't many town centres around London that offer a retreat like Dartford's Central Park. Just off the back of the high street, the park comes as a pleasant surprise to those new to the town.
Whether you are in search of pretty gardens and picnic spots, a good dog walking area, activities for children or just an escape from shopping, is an ideal place to go.
For those looking for history, culture or a good book, be sure to visit Dartford Library. Before the ornate 19th Century building opened as a library, it was used as municipal offices, a Conservative Club and was originally built just as a house and garden. You could check out a book to take into the park, or join the kids in the little outdoor library that's been set up for the summer holidays.
Make sure to stop for a moment at one of the benches to look at the flowers.
You'll find the children's playground further into the park, which features climbing frames, zip wires, climbing walls and even a fountain to play in on a hot day. There are also plenty of spaces to pitch up for a picnic.
Alternatively you could stop at the Cafe in the Park, which is a brand new facility doubling up as a visitor centre. You can find out about local wildlife or plan a walking route along the Darrent Valley Path, while enjoying a slice of cake.
also offers a skate park for the cool kids, an athletics track and lots of places for dogs to chase a ball.
There is something for everyone, kids and adults alike, and best of all it's free.
