Looking for a brunch venue with a difference? Well, how about Darcie & May Green floating restaurant and bar on the Grand Union Canal outside Paddington station? Designed by British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, this colourful eaterie provides all-day dining from an Aussie-inspired menu.I came across this gem leaving Paddington by the Sheldon Square exit. You step down into a pastel-shaded interior furnished with simple tables and retro-style faux suede chairs. Light floods the seating area through large windows, from which you can watch passers-by at walkway level.[BREAK]Bottomless brunches are on the menu with Prosecco and mimosas for £39.50 per person (tables only).
I didn't quite feel up to such a feast, so opted for smashed avocado on charcoal bread topped with two poached eggs for £11.30. Beautifully presented and delicious, this was enough to keep me going for the entirety of my four-hour train journey.
Served until 3pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends, Darcie & May Green's brunches come in all shapes and sizes. They range from a full-on cooked breakfast called The Bondi, to the Shakshouka with spiced tomatoes and labne or broccoli and corn fritters. If you're looking for something lighter, Darcie & May Green's 'Award-winning banana bread sandwich' is just the ticket.
The all-day dining menu includes steaks, curries and salads along with vegetarian and vegan options. Craft beers, wines and cocktails along with live music set the bar a-buzzing in the evening, especially in fine, warm weather when you can enjoy drinks on the 50m upper deck.
