Hundreds of people enjoyed the great outdoors for the opportunity to see a delightful theatrical performance in the open air. Record crowds took advantage of the sunshine and dry weather to watch outdoor theatre taking place in a community park in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Danny, The Champion Of The World in Dosthill Park
They gathered from far and wide in the town's Dosthill Park for an enjoyable afternoon of open air theatre by the award-winning outdoor touring company,
Illyria. The performance of
Roald Dahl's Danny, The Champion Of The World, which took place on Saturday 2 July, attracted almost 350 people - the largest attendance figure to date for an outdoor theatre event organised by
Tamworth Borough Council's Arts and Events team.

The Smith family from Birmingham give their verdict
Families came from all over the Tamworth area to see the show as well as people from neighbouring regions including Birmingham. And the feedback afterwards was very positive from people of all ages in the audience. Young schoolgirl Tilly from Glascote, Tamworth, said: "I'm really enjoying this because it's so funny", while the Smith family who travelled from Birmingham for the performance simply commented: "Great, brilliant!"

'Danny' with young fan Tilly
Danny, The Champion Of The World, was the second performance of outdoor theatre to be shown in the new community location of Dosthill Park following the success of Beatrix Potter's The Tales Of Peter Rabbit by Quantum Theatre last summer. The story revolves around Danny, the youngest car mechanic around, who enjoys a happy experience with his dad until the owner of the land they live on becomes keen to move them off. The classic Roald Dahl story was brought to life as part of celebrations to mark 100 years since the birth of the famous author.

The performance went well down well with the hundreds of fans
Illyria is very popular with audiences in Tamworth and across the region, having performed in the area many times during the theatre company's 25-year history. For more information about future Tamworth Borough Council Arts and Events team productions view
