Dainty cupcake cafes are flourishing all over our city, trendy London markets are selling them, websites are popping up all over the place offering swift delivery, and these little sweet treats are being used as the centre-pieces for decadent weddings and glossy corporate events nationwide.

Whether you're grabbing a quick snack on the go, or enjoying one whilst lounging in a cute café with a foamy latte, these babies are the perfect weekend pick-me-up.

Cupcakes began their journey from understated to decidedly chic in New York, at the Magnolia Bakery when they began producing 'Cupcakes with Charisma'. Slathered in delicious butter cream and decorated to perfection, their little beauties are almost too gorgeous to eat. Customers can choose from an adorably named and themed selection of cakes, which include pumpkin cupcakes with a maple cream topping, coconut cupcakes and the dangerously enticing devil's food cupcakes.

During my search for the perfect cupcake I have found some truly inspiring places in London to relax and enjoy these delightful little delicacies.

Humming Bird Bakery have two cafes, one in South Kensington, and one in Notting Hill, they are probably the most well known cupcake sellers in the UK and their charming menu of cupcakes and larger layer cakes will leave you feeling warm from the inside out.

Where: 47 Old Brompton Rd, SW7 3JP and 133 Portobello Rd, W11 2DY

Bake-a-boo based in West Hampstead offers daily afternoon teas served with a selection of their divine cupcakes, the shop is beautifully decorated with pastel pinks and yellows, and makes you feel as if you have just stepped into a life sized dollies tea party.

Where: Mill Lane, NW6 1NL

Cupcake Emporium near Hyde Park is based on the emporium in Beverly Hills, where Oprah Winfrey is a particular fan, you can indulge in naughty treats such as 'double chocolate sin', 'vanilla sundae' 'lemon dream' and 'peanut butter and chocolate' served with a wide selection of quality coffee, tea and milkshakes.

Where: Craven Terrace, W2 3EL

Enjoy, fellow Londoners.

You can even make your very own deliciously naughty Cupcakes.
