Adults only crime spoof is festive alternative to panto
If you're looking for a Christmas show that's strictly for the grown-ups then this will definitely be to your liking! After the sell-out success of last year's Crimes Against Christmas (see Weekend Notes review) the Lichfield Garrick theatre is once again teaming up with award-winning theatre company New Old Friends to create an alternative Christmas comedy for adults. There'll be none of the usual 'he's behind you' and boos and hisses as the baddy walks out on stage, for this promises to be as far removed from the traditional festive pantomime as you can get.
Expect plenty of mayhem in Crimes On The Christmas Express
Crimes on the Christmas Express, which is being performed in the Garrick's studio theatre from Friday 8 December 2017 to Saturday 6 January 2018, is said to have been inspired by a mixture of Agatha Christie, 39 Steps and Jason Bourne as it promises to take the audience on a hilarious and thrilling train journey through the snow-capped mountains of the East. Onboard among the assorted passengers are a collection of jewel thieves, circus performers, lovelorn porters, sleazy Americans, as well as countless other characters all brought to life by a cast of just four extremely busy and quick-changing actors. If last year's Crimes Against Christmas is anything to go boy, it promises to be a great night out with friends, family or work colleagues while the children - at least those under the age of 14 - are safely tucked up at home.
New Old Friends are an award-winning theatre company run by Feargus Woods Dunlop and Heather Westwell. Feargus founded New Old Friends in 2008 and Heather joined after she met him following the company's debut show, Mate. Together they have built New Old Friends into a national touring company producing engaging, accessible shows that make people laugh. New Old Friends have just been named the first-ever recipients of the Creative Bath Awards in the Writer category in 2017. The company were also a finalist in the Arts Organisation category at both the Creative Bath Awards and the Bath Life Awards of 2017.
