The Edinburgh Colonies were built in the 19th century as homes for artisans and skilled working-class families.
Today they are still home to many creative and artistic people.
This year, the
Stockbridge Colonies Residents Association are launching a new event to showcase the creations of the people who live and work in the colonies.
It's just in time for you to start your Christmas shopping in unusual and unique style.
Here's a guide to what you can buy and where:
23 Rintoul: Waldorf-inspired toys, made from eco fabrics, inc dolls & soft toys, angels & fairies.
4 Rintoul: silver jewellery, unusual candles & quirky clocks
21 Colville : vintage jewellery.
16 Balmoral: Paintings ~ animal and human portraits & commissions, Colonies postcards.
17 Balmoral: Photography, candles and cards
23 Dunrobin; Scottish poetry published in the Colonies by Mariscat Press - authors inc E. Morgan, S. Conn, D. Dunn, J Galloway. Impromptu poetry readings by Diana Hendry & Hamish Whyte .
29 Teviotdale: Cards, books, box frames, origami fairy lights & bookbinding kits, also hosting festive paper-folding activities (£5 suggested donation...).
4 Teviotdale: Handmade sterling silver jewellery and gifts.
23 Avondale: Enamelled jewellery and beads.
14 Avondale: Linocuts/collages of Stockbridge Colonies, Christmas bunting.
6 Glenogle Place: 4-5pm ONLY - Colonies Christmas scene featured on Christmas cards, mugs, notebooks, post-its & pens. Cards for sale on 11th Nov & orders taken for other items to be delivered before Christmas.
