To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com
Craft Beers at Brick Lane's Old Truman Brewery
Who can remember the popularity and growth of lager during the final decades of the last century? Often the gassy liquid that was produced was far less inspiring than the television commercials that promoted it. However we have always had a tradition of ales, stouts and bitters and when Gordon Brown introduced tax breaks for micro-breweries in 2002 it led to a resurgence in the brewing of our more traditional beers.

There are now nearly 8 million craft beer drinkers in the UK, many of them women, including yours truly. Small brewers up and down the country are constantly experimenting with new flavours and seasonal versions of their beers, often placing guest ales in pubs for short periods. If you're in the London area, what better excuse could there be to visit the Old Truman Brewery than to sample and taste at the Craft Beer Rising? It won't be a booze up: more than 40 breweries will be exhibiting, their offerings soaked up by food vendors from Brockley Market, and DJs and musicians will supply a musical backdrop. And if you fancy your future as a brewer, there will also be a Beer Lab. What are you waiting for? Tickets cost £10 and are available from the website as well as on the door. I drink to your very good health.
