Celebrating the sounds of the Caribbean with jazz star
British jazz legend Courtney Pine makes a relatively intimate appearance in Birmingham later this month.
As part of his House Of Legends tour, the saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist comes to The Drum on Saturday 27 April 2013 prior to a summer of festival dates and European and North American shows.
Released last year, House Of Legends finds Courtney once again pushing the boundaries of jazz music. He's never been afraid to call on other influences, with previous releases filled with echoes of hip hop, drum'n'bass, soul, and the sounds of Africa and Asia, and here he turns his attention to the Caribbean.
With a crack band, House Of Legends is infused and brimming with Caribbean vibes - ska, calypso, merengue, and mento - earning Pine Jazzwise's Album Of The Year 2012 title.
Since making his debut in the mid-80s, Pine has followed a singularly unique road making him the most influential British jazz musician of his generation.
