With escape rooms closed for some time, Questventure has developed new play-at-home challenges to suit both families and hardcore puzzle enthusiasts.

The first to launch is family-friendly Cosmic Panic - a new immersive, intergalactic virtual puzzle game you can do at home on your computer.

It's a 30-minute challenge aimed at families, couples and friends with the lure of space themes and the chance for youngsters to imagine themselves as astronauts.

Cosmic Panic is the easier of Questventure's new games but it's still hard to beat the clock.

It means concentrating on a series of fun puzzles set in space and not wasting any time, which we unfortunately did and just missed the deadline, setting off a catastrophic collision - boom!

The premise is that your spaceship has collided with an asteroid and you're heading directly towards earth with only 30 minutes to repair your ship before it crashes.

At only £4.99, it's a bargain compared to the cost of a regular escape room and is an entertaining half an hour where you need to keep your wits about you and use plenty of logic.

The game is completely online so you need the internet and a computer. It's suitable for solo players, which is refreshing as many games aren't, or teams of up to four people.

There's a Spacecraft Instruction Manual that features clues and answers to puzzles set along the way, which requires some logic to figure out for yourself.

There's tasks involving Russian words, comet movements and phases of the moon - all space-related to add a buzz of excitement.

It's worth printing the manual off or transferring it to a mobile phone screen as it's easier than going back and forth between pages on your computer; especially as the time rattles past very quickly and it's not a doddle to get everything done in time.

You can get hints and answers along the way if you get stuck and while it's the simpler of Questventure's challenges, it still isn't a walkover, but is solvable.

The large clock menacingly counting down in front of you is a nice touch that adds tension too.

For a new family game, Cosmic Panic is a refreshing addition to play-at-home adventures in a time when people need inspiration on activities they can do within the lockdown restrictions.

It's a thrilling game that offers out of this world fun for anyone in desperate need of escapism.
