Stunning vegan/gluten free cakes and bakes in London
For those of us afflicted with diseases that make gluten and vegan cake the only opportunity to gorge on chocolate, pastry and sugar, Cookies and Scream will call to your inner child.
Hidden away down a tiny passage in Camden Lock Market, Cookies and Scream does what it says on the tin. It serves cookies and will make your allergy inflicted body scream with delight that you've found something so tasty that everyone else wants a bite of too.
They serve large, chewy cookies filled with chocolate chunks and peanut butter and their chocolate brownies, when heated up are to die for. I've loved the plum cake, eaten at their little bar served with a scoop of vegan ice-cream. Best of all are the vegan milkshakes: try the Oreo one: it's madly delicious.
Cookies and Scream have developed a peanut butter fetish recently and I can't say I blame them, especially as they do it so well. Four out of their 10 cakes and cookies have a peanut butter component. I always come away from Cookies and Scream starting by saying: 'That's the best thing I've eaten since I've been diagnosed...'. Actually, a huge crumbly slice of the peanut butter and chocolate pie was the best thing I've eaten since becoming Coeliac. Melted chocolate oozed into my fingers and it was rich, and sticky and chocolaty.
Even better, there was no way you could tell that it was for vegans and gluten free people.
Cookies and Scream have a real niche in the market, but they do it so well that my boyfriend frequently wants to try what I've bought.
The idea is just fabulous, and really worth the trip to Camden just for this.
