Turns out, Manchester's creative places have more going on than just walls and a roof. Whether it is those industrial vibes lurking in the architecture or the collective spark of the artists themselves, we reckon it is rather important to support each other and champion local talent. This exhibition, aptly named , is a chance to tip our hats to the city's colourful past and give a proper round of applause to the clever folks who make Manchester what it is. The people at 42nd Street, a Greater Manchester charity focusing on young people's mental health, were kind enough to help with picking out the artwork. You will find works by James Bloomfield, Anastasia Borodina, Sharon Campbell, Jason Carr, Gherdai Hassell, Sara Hindhaugh, Sam Owen Hull, Georgia Noble, Akinyemi Oludele, Sandra Robinson and Jude Wainwright.
The exhibition has set up shop from 12th April right through to 23rd August 2025, and best of all, it is free to wander in. You can pop along Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm, or if you are more of a weekend person, the second Sunday of the month from 11am to 5pm. A heads up for those with wheels or mobility aids: the exhibition space is a bit raised, so direct access is not quite there yet. But do not despair, the open plan means you can still take it all in perfectly well from a comfortable distance. Guide and support dogs are welcome too, just keep them on their leads. They have even thought about making it easier to read for everyone, with interpretations friendly for those with dyslexia. If something catches your eye, some of the pieces are up for grabs and can be collected once the exhibition has wrapped up. Fancy a natter or have a burning question? You can drop them an email at
[email protected], give them a bell on 0161 832 4274, or just pop your head into the office on the first floor. They probably will not bite.
