What a day for Colours of Change to open in London. Without the hyphen Sri Lanka to finish off the title, one could almost believe that the exhibition was going to depict London weather: clear skies, dark clouds, monsoon rains and hailstones in a day.
However, these erratic weather changes are things that have been photographed and spoken about enough. What hasn't been depicted this accurately to the best of my knowledge are the changes in Sri Lanka over the last 28 years.
Stephen Champion does not shy away from capturing the dichotomy between the country's beauty and its history of brutality.
His photos are raw and insightful, and the Brunei Gallery has displayed his works in such a manner that you are given the physical space you need to digest Sri Lanka's rapid changes as witnessed by him.
