Big Band music meets jazz in a new UK tour by one of the country's favourite and most popular performers. Acclaimed, award-winning singer
Clare Teal is taking to the road with the help of her Mini Big Band backing group with the promise of a great evening of classic songs from some of the greats on both sides of the Atlantic. Clare, who combines her live concert performances with her regular slot as a BBC Radio 2 presenter, will be delivering a night of toe tapping, jazz influenced, big band songs produced by musical legends over the last 100 years, as well as the work of more contemporary writers and Clare's own original compositions.
The song list, which can be heard at the
Lichfield Garrick theatre on Saturday 13 November, is expected to include music from Cole Porter to Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Sir Tim Rice to Sting, and will honour some of the great female performers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson and Peggy Lee. But there will also be a selection of material from her new album, Twelve O'Clock Tales, which she released earlier this year having recorded with the famed Hallé Orchestra. Conducted and arranged by world-class trumpet player and composer Guy Barker, the album includes the songs
Sans Souci, Secret Love, Feeling Good, Lush Life, It Might As Well Be Spring, and
Wild Is The Wind.
Clare's big breakthrough as a singer came in 2004 when she released her first album for Sony Jazz entitled
Don't Talk, which both topped the jazz charts and also reached the UK Top 20. She has since gone on to release eight further successful albums, six of them on her own label MUD Records. Alongside her own weekly two hour live radio show on BBC Radio 2, Clare performs regularly throughout the UK and internationally, with either her Pianist, Trio, Mini Big Band or Hollywood Orchestra (Mini Big Band with Strings) shows. She also guests with the Hallé, BBC Concert, RTÉ Concert and The John Wilson orchestras as well as other top big bands.
And away from her other commitments Clare has also worked with Sir Van Morrison on his album
Duets, opened for Liza Minnelli at the Royal Festival Hall, sung with the BBC Big Band at Proms in the Park, headlined the Bourbon Street Tent at Glastonbury Festival, and performed regularly at the world renowned Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Clare, who won British Jazz Singer of the Year in 2005, 2007 and 2015, and BBC Jazz Singer of the Year in 2006, will be performing her live concert at Lichfield Garrick theatre on Saturday 13 November. Tickets costing £21 are available
online or by ringing 01543 412121.
