Big band vocalist aims to get audiences in the swing
Get into the swing in style in 2018 by getting yourself along to a brand new show by award winning singer and BBC Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal and her seven-strong band of talented musicians. Clare Teal and Her Mini Big Band are taking to the country's roads with their new show, which appropriately goes under the title of Swing's The Thing. As one of the UK's greatest interpreters of song and much loved performers, Clare and her band promise an evening of inspired music and unbridled entertainment.

Swing's The Thing promises to deliver an evening of timeless and sparkling material with standards from the grand masters of the Great American Song Book, including Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart, to witty and urbane song stylists of the 1950's and 60's, such as Cy Coleman, Carolyn Leigh and Dave Brubeck. Clare Teal and Her Mini Big Band also give a musical nod to more contemporary writers during the course of their show, which is being performed at the Lichfield Garrick theatre in Staffordshire on April 6 as part of its nationwide tour.

After signing to independent label Candid in 2001, and releasing three acclaimed titles, it was Clare's first album for Sony Jazz which became her breakthrough record. Released in 2004, Don't Talk topped the jazz charts and entered the UK Top 20, garnering several awards. She has gone on to record and release 15 albums, seven of them on her own label MUD Records. Her most recent album, Twelve O'Clock Tales, was released in 2016 and recorded with the Hallé, conducted by Stephen Bell and arranged by world-class trumpet and composer Guy Barker. Clare, who won British Jazz Singer of the year in 2005, 2007, 2015 and 2017, has set herself the goal of bringing big band and swing music to people across the country and beyond.
Alongside her concerts, she also presents her own live show on BBC Radio 2 every Sunday night. That connection also saw her produce and present her third full scale BBC Prom Concert in August 2017. Clare Teal and Her Mini Big Band will perform Swing's The Thing at the Lichfield Garrick theatre on Friday 6 April at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £25 each are available by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121 or by visiting www.lichfieldgarrick.com
