Join the traditional festivities around the tree
This year's Christmas celebrations in Trafalgar Square start with the lighting of the tree on Thursday 5 December. The tree comes from Norway, continuing a historic tradition that has taken place every year since 1947.
On Sunday 8 December, there will be a torchlight procession for the Blessing of the Crib starting from the steps of St Martin-in-the-Fields at 5.20pm.
The procession will be lead by the Salvation Army Band, joined by the church choir and clergy of St Martins-in-the-Fields The crib, designed by Tomaki Suzuki, will be on display throughout December.
From 9-22 December, over 50 groups from in and around London will gather to sing carols beneath the tree. Performances are from 16.00-20.00 on weekdays and from 14.00-18.00 on weekends. All these events are free to attend.
