It's a magical time of year at Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens during the Christmas season with a wintry wonderland of lights glittering in the night sky, through the glass of the Palm House, on the lake and in the gardens.
More than 1 million sparkling Christmas lights on a mile-long trail take you on an enchanting evening journey with immersive installations and spectacular displays as you enjoy live performances along the way.
Highlights, as you follow the illuminated path, include:-
Field of Light – an encounter with hundreds of moving lights as you head towards the Great Pagoda, adorned with 80 golden dragons
Laser Garden – where darting beams of lights illuminate trees in the moonlit woods
Scented Sculptural Fire Garden – with flickering flames and crackling sounds, it's inspired by Five Gold Rings from The Twelve Days of Christmas
300 twinkling Origami boats floating on the shimmering surface of the lake
A dome made from tubular lights where you can enjoy a festive drink
Brightly coloured firework trees, suspended ribbons of light and the 100m-long Cathedral of Light tunnel emanating patterns and pictures to a festive soundtrack
An enchanting walkway of giant glowing peonies
The Great Broad Walk Borders surrounded by 11m-high flower sculptures and illuminated benches where you can sit, relax and admire the view along the promenade
Santa and his Elves
Vintage fairground rides at White Peaks
Jumping jets of light and kaleidoscopic water projections that dance to seasonal music in front of the Palm House with a spectacular grand finale
Christmas treats and warming winter drinks at the end of the trail with the likes of roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows, mince pies, spiced cider and mulled wine, and hot chocolate
A number of food and drink stalls are dotted along the trail, along with hot food and meals in the Victoria Plaza and White Peaks cafes, and a dedicated vegan grill. Furthermore, a traditional Christmas dinner can be had at the gardens' Botanical restaurant with two sittings available - either dinner at 5pm with a 7pm trail visit ticket or a 6pm trail visit ticket with dinner afterwards at 8pm.
